On November 25, 2024, the Greenville community suffered an unimaginable loss when Officer Cooper Dawson, a dedicated member of the Greenville Police Department, was killed in the line of duty. Officer Dawson was tragically ambushed and fatally injured while pursuing a suspect following a traffic stop. Despite his critical injuries, he displayed remarkable bravery, protecting others until the end.

 

This devastating incident marks the first line-of-duty death for the Greenville Police Department in over 100 years, leaving behind not only a grieving department but also a heartbroken family who must now navigate life without their beloved husband, father, son, and friend.

Officer Dawson's unwavering commitment to public service was evident throughout his career, including his time with the Garland Police Department. He gave his all to ensure the safety of our community, and now it's our turn to give back.
